Dairy Farmer

We have been using UltraGold for the past 3 seasons and have noticed a huge difference in our effluent pond and pipes to the pond. It has helped breakdown solids so we can irrigate on to our farm without any blockages. Envirozone has been great to deal with and UltraGold is a cost effective way for us to keep our pond clean and flowing.

Hydroponic Lettuce Operation

Water tests are by Hill Laboratories.

Lettuce tests (with and without roots) are by Asure Quality.

I have a hydroponic lettuce operation consisting of four systems with separate pumps through seven plastic houses.

Approximately one year ago we received a positive result for E coli <15 MPN/g countdown micro limit <10, which was a first for our company. We decided to test all four systems with existing water still in them. The results were 10, 6, 60 and 0 for E coli. We then cleaned the systems and added clean water and tested 24 hours later and the results were 11, 5, 40 and 0. Our lettuce with roots on E coli detected and roots off not detected. Bore water result 0. The results seemed all over the place especially as all the systems are on the same block of land and same bore water is used.

We treated with a recommended dose of chlorine based eradicator. Test results – no change. We tripled the dose and the results were still well over the recommended levels in one system and slightly over in the other two. The plants suffered with severe burning of the roots and then rotted.

We had no choice but to close down and scrub every gully with chlorine and run systems with massive doses of chlorine to hopefully eradicate the E coli. Once we had cleaned the systems out with fresh water and then ran new water for 24 hours we were shocked to find the levels through the roof. One system was up at 1200 and another 250.

Obviously the E coli was rampant in the old crusty parts of the gullies and retusin pipes where we had opened a major can of worms.

Another type of chlorine based eradicator was used and failed and we were stuck for what to do.

Fortunately I came across UltraGold and was ready to try anything. To start with I did an initial dose of 5 litres (large dose) to the 7000 litre systems, then re applied 1 litre every three days. I did this three times to allow the beneficial bacteria in UltraGold to multiply and build numbers.

The next test results came back with the 1200 system now reading 60 and the 250 system down to 15. Great results but still over the recommended limits.

I then cleaned the systems which isn’t ideal when using UltraGold as you are removing all the beneficial bacteria which you have built up but in lettuce systems clean water is essential every 3-4 weeks. I then followed the same initial regime and the results in the high system were now down to 2 and the lower system showed no E coli detected. We also use ozone 24/7 which keeps diseases at bay in the tanks but doesn’t last out in the gullies or in the systems.

In conclusion E coli is everywhere. Because our lettuce get bagged roots and all the root base still has E coli in it. Ideally you would use UltraGold and not empty the water ie ideal in dams or ponds used for irrigation.

I have since been using UltraGold 1 litre every 10 days and empty systems 4 weekly and have had no detections of E coli over the recommended dose since.

Low limits of staphylococci was also detected after the gully clearing but no detections since using UltraGold.

DAIRY FARMER

I pour a small amount of UltraGold on the yard before hosing down every week. It is amazing at reducing the sludge, crust and odour on the effluent ponds, especially over summer. But my main issue was excessive periphyton growth in the dam which was clogging the pipes and choking the dam. I applied UltraGold to the dam which drastically reduced the periphyton growth in the dam, and it has stayed away with small monthly applications. I no longer have clogged pipes, no matter how much fertiliser goes on the neighbour’s property. I have been using UltraGold for over a year now and I highly recommend this product!
